Around the world, schools have either started to open up again or are in the process of doing so. And with this comes a lot of questions, anxiety, and angst for all involved. So why should you be considering contacting an educational consultant?
First off, why pay a consultant to do what you can do yourself on the internet? After all, doesn’t the web furnish the answers to your education questions at the tip of your fingers? Well, yes and no. I liken this scenario to those who seek medical help online via the various medical advice platforms available. I don’t know about you, but based on the things I have searched over the years, I should either have been dead years ago or the healthiest individual on earth. Spoiler alert: I am neither. So just as you wouldn’t (I hope) stake your health on free medical advice offered online, neither should you place your educational needs in the proverbial hands of the world wide web.
Of course, the internet has put a good deal of information at our fingertips, but it has also hindered our ability to navigate the educational landscape. I have always marveled at how so many people assume a level of expertise in education that is wholly based on their own experience. Experience, which for many, is decades out of date. I guess it comes down to the fact that since everyone has gone to school, they just assume that they know how schools and the educational system operate. It is an absurd assumption, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not something that people believe.
Not only has the educational paradigm changed considerably just since the turn of the new century, but so too has brain research, our understanding of mental health, and so much more with respect to the education of the individual. Though not all public schools or private schools do an exemplary job in these areas, there is, at the very least, a solid understanding that each individual learns differently and arrives at school with unique strengths and challenges that need to be understood and attended to.
All this change and individualized attention require a deep understanding of the new educational landscape. And of course, the COVID 19 pandemic and all the uncertainty it has brought with it must be taken into consideration by parents, students, and schools.
